Now that the world has become a global village, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has said that his administration would continue to think locally and act globally to sustain the presence of the University on the global map.
Prof. Egbewole stated this while receiving members of the committee for the proposed UNILORIN Centre for Cultural Studies who visited him in his office. The Committee is headed by Prof. S. O. Aghalino of the Department of History and International Studies.
The Vice Chancellor said that ”it is a good thing that globalisation now determines the way the world operates; it is better to think local and act global”, adding that that is the way his administration is thinking.
While assuring the Committee that management will look at all the issues presented, the Vice-Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the Committee that has ensured that the report was ready within the time frame given to them.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Committee, Prof. S. O. Aghalino, said that
with the proposed University of Ilorin Centre for Cultural Studies, he saw a future where the University would be the hub for academic discussions of culture, the impact of globalisation on culture, and how culture could be monetised.
Prof. Aghalino, who is a former Director of the Unilorin Centre for Archives and Documentation, said that his Committee was able to articulate the needs for the Centre including curriculum and where to source for grants.
He added that they were able to show how the centre would be beneficial to the University and the larger society.
