Confirm availability and your eligibility of the desired course.

 

 

 

Click the “Application Form” link and select the Postgraduate option from the Application Type menu

 

 

 

Complete the Pre-Application Form to obtain a Payment Reference Number. (please print the payment advice).

 

 

 

Proceed to make payment of the non-refundable fee of N30,000.00 (Thirty Thousand Naira Only) for the Form, and charges through any of the below options:

 

 

 

a. Remita Payment: Any commercial bank using the RRR number displayed on the payment advice

 

 

 

b. Online Payment: Click the PayNow link to make payment directly on the portal with your bank debit card.

 

 

 

After payment, return to the School of Postgraduate Studies website http://spgs.unilag.edu.ng, click the 2024/2025 Application link, then “Continue Application” link, login with ‘Payment Reference Number’ and provide surname in lowercase as password.

 

 

 

 

 

Complete the Application form and upload digital passport photograph (jpeg format) which should not be more than 15KB in size and must be on a white background. The acceptable dimension is width: 275 pixels or 35mm, height: 314 pixels or 40mm. (Failure to comply with specified image format may lead to disqualification.)

NECO RELEASES 2023 SSCE EXTERNAL RESULTS

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2023 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results.

The examination body also said that it blacklisted two supervisors in Oyo and Lagos states and one examination centre in Borno state for being involved in examination malpractices in the 2023 SSCE external.

 

 

Wushishi said that 8,518 candidates were booked for various forms of malpractices, adding that the examination malpractices cases included two centers in Kaduna and Ogun states involved in whole center cases.

 

NECO’s Registrar/Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Wushishi disclosed this while briefing journalists in Minna during the release of the 2023 SSCE external results.

 

According to him, the two supervisors were blacklisted for poor supervision, inability to control the candidates, and aiding and abetting while the centre in Borno was blacklisted for aiding and abetting for sharing WhatsApp messages with candidates.

 

Announcing the results said that 74,950 candidates registered for the examinations out of which 74,342 sat for the examination.

 

He said: “The number of candidates that sat for the English Language is 73,123 out of which 55,272 representing 75.59 percent got Credit and above.

 

“The number of candidates that sat for Mathematics is 73,119 out of which 67,815 representing 92.75 percent got Credit and above.

 

“The number of candidates that got five Credits and above including English and Mathematics is 50,066 representing 67.35 percent. Also, 63,539 candidates representing 84.11 percent get five Credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.”

 

The Registrar also launched the automated annual posting calendar to address the problems associated with posting the Council’s staff for out-of-station assignments.

 

He said that the e-posting calendar would address the lopsidedness and favoritism that trail staff posting for various assignments.

NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BEGINS PAYMENT OF SALARIES OF UNIVERSITY LECTURERS, ASUU WITHHELD OVER 2022 STRIKE

ome lecturers in various universities in Nigeria under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have started receiving part of their eight-month salaries withheld by the government over the industrial action they embarked upon in 2022.

 

A lecturer from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto confirmed this to SaharaReporters on Monday. “It is true. Some of us have started seeing alerts. But I have not seen mine but I am sure I will see it very soon,” he said.

When SaharaReporters contacted the union’s President, Prof Emmanuel Osodoke for comments, he said the union was compiling a report on the issue and would soon release it to the public.

 

A source told SahraReporters that what pushed the government to start the payment today (Monday) was the regional meetings earlier scheduled by the lecturers to decide if to commence another industrial action.

 

 

The 2022 ASUU strike began on February 14 and ended on October 17.

 

The lecturers embarked on the strike action to demand improved funding for universities, increased salaries for lecturers, and better working conditions for staff.

 

But the then-government of Muhammadu Buhari did not pay the lecturers for the eight months based on its ‘no work, no pay’ policy.

 

 

 

 

 

However, President Bola Tinubu announced the approval of a partial waiver of the “No Work, No Pay” policy and ordered the release of four months of withheld salary to the lecturers.

 

This was disclosed in a press statement issued by his aide Chief Ajuri Ngelale last October, saying that the waiver was granted invoking the Principle of the Presidential Prerogative of Mercy, and in recognition of the faithful implementation of terms that were agreed upon during the fruitful deliberations between ASUU and the Federal Government of Nigeria.

 

Mr Ngelale stated that the waiver “will allow for the previously striking members of ASUU to receive four months of salary accruals out of the eight months of salary which was withheld during the eight-month industrial action undertaken by the union.”

JAMB TO PROHIBIT DIRECT ENTRY ADMISSIONS FOR CANDIDATE WHO FAIL VERIFICATION

Students from no fewer than 155 institutions may face exclusion from processing Direct Entry admissions due to verification failures from their certificate-awarding institutions, according to recent information.

 

The registration for Direct Entry examinations is scheduled to commence on February 28, 2024.

 

In February 2023, JAMB issued an advisory to guide candidates seeking admissions through Direct Entry for the 2023/2024 academic session. This advisory aimed to address the issue of candidates using unacceptable or forged A-level certificates/qualifications to gain admission.

 

Recently, JAMB advised candidates to promptly contact their former institutions to verify their certificates, emphasizing its refusal to accept students with unverified certificates.

 

JAMB also mentioned that it had reached out to all tertiary institutions issuing certificates, noting positive responses from some but lack of response from others.

 

A memo by JAMB to some institutions in Abuja stated, “Despite the letters and follow-ups made by the board to institutions to verify the claimed certificates, 2,795 are yet to be verified from 155 institutions, as some have partially or totally not responded.”

 

The affected institutions include Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo; College of Health Technology, Plateau; College of Education, Lafiagi, Kwara state; College of Education, Oju, Benue state, among others.

 

Earlier, JAMB had highlighted efforts to curb such practices, including the Nigeria Post-secondary Education Data System (NIPEDS) writing to all tertiary institutions to facilitate A-level certificate verification. However, many institutions have not responded, leading to non-consideration of candidates with unverified certificates for admission.

The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared a two-day nationwide mass protest slated for February 27 and 28 over the biting hardship in the country.

One of the labour leaders at the meeting had said that though the minister pleaded with the labour leaders to shelve the planned strike, stressing that the federal government was already addressing labour demands, the labour leaders were adamant.

 

 

 

“We categorically told the minister and her team that our ultimatum stands. We were emphatic that only the government can stop the strike by honouring the agreement we reached on October 2, 2023.

 

“We cannot say the meeting was a deadlock because it has opened avenue for discussion. If the government had been opened to discussions, probably, we would not have issued the strike notice. As it is, we are not going back on the ultimatum, not with the mass suffering and poverty across the country. Well, the responsibility lies with government,” he had said.

The 2024 Batch A, Stream 1 National Youth Service Corp members mobilized this February for service, have expressed dissatisfaction with the soaring food prices in the Mammy market.

 

 

 

The Mammy markets are stationed in every NYSC camp for those unable to endure the queues for camp-provided food

 

 

 

 

A Corp member, Jefferson in Bauchi NYSC Camp, shared on TikTok that the exorbitant costs in Mammy markets have forced nearly all Corp members to queue for camp food.

 

He stated, “Everyone wants camp food due to the unaffordable prices in Mammy markets. Those who brought thousands to the camp have exhausted their funds within two days. Now, food is scarce for all Corp members. We are even fighting to be in the queue and receive very little food.”

 

 

 

 

Another Corp member in the southern part of the country mentioned that the camp coordinator advised Corp members not to rely on camp food, as it is not supposed to be sufficient for everyone. She said, “Our camp coordinator even told us to consider camp exit because the camp cannot feed everyone.”

Lagos Nurses Protest Against New Verification Guidelines

 

Nigerian Nurses under the aegis of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Lagos chapter, on Monday, protested against the Federal Government’s new verification certification guideline.

 

The new guideline was released by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

The nurses described the new guideline as an attempt to hinder their freedom to pursue career opportunities, asking the council to address nurses’ welfare, salary scale, shortage of staff, and other rights.

 

Nurses and midwives in the country had earlier in the week lamented the deactivation of the NMCN verification portal since December 2023.

 

In 2023, the NANNM said over 75,000 nurses and midwives left the country in five years to seek greener pastures.
